Rep. Mark Amodei, a Republican from Nevada, on Friday became the first GOP member of the House to publicly support the impeachment inquiry into President Trump.
Amodei stressed that he was only supporting the current inquiry and had not decided whether the president should actually be impeached.
In a conference call with reporters, Amodei said he didnt intend to vote to impeach the president, but added an investigation into whether Trump violated the law should be put through “process, procedure, fact-finding and debate.”
“Im a big fan of oversight, so lets let the committees get to work and see where it goes,” he said on the call, according audio released by the Neveda Independent.
“Using government agencies to, if its proven, to put your finger on the scale of an election, I dont think thats right,” Amodei added. “If it turns out that its something along those lines, then theres a problem.”
Democrats in the house are moving forward with impeachment proceedings against Trump, alleging he illegally used his office to pressure Ukraine to dig dirt on Joe Biden and his son.
