Despite his war of words with outspoken soccer star Megan Rapinoe, President Trump said Friday that he hoped the US would win Sundays Womens World Cup final in London against the Netherlands.
“I dont know that Ill be able to,” Trump told reporters outside the White House, when asked if he planned to watch the game, adding, “I hope they do well. I hope they win.”
Rapinoe, a gay woman and activist who takes a knee during the National Anthem, angered the commander in chief when she told a soccer magazine “Im not going to the f–king White House” should the team win and get an invite.
Trump fired back on Twitter.
“Womens soccer player, @mPinoe, just stated that she is not going to the F…ing White House if we win. Other than the NBA … leagues and teams love coming to the White House. I am a big fan of the American Team, and Womens Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!” he wrote.
