The Australian rugby union authorities have terminated their contract with full-back Israel Folau after he posted a homophobic picture on social media.
The image, shared with his 338,000 followers on Instagram, said that hell awaits homosexuals, and likened them to drunks, adulterers and liars.
Folau, 30, was found to have committed a high-level breach of the Professional Players Code of Conduct by Rugby Australias integrity unit.
He is now ruled out of playing the Rugby World Cup, which will take place in Japan later this year.
The 73-cap international now has 48 hours to accept the sanction or face a code of conduct hearing.
Rugby Australia chief executive Raelene Castle said: Israel was warned formally and repeatedly about the expectations of him as player for the Wallabies and NSW Waratahs with regards to social media use and he has failed to meet those obligations.
It was made clear to him that any social media posts or commentary that is in any way disrespectful to people because of their sexuality will result in disciplinary action.
Folau shared the image calling for homosexuals to repent on Instagram four days ago.
He captioned the image: Those that are living in Sin will end up in Hell unless you repent. Jesus Christ loves youRead More – Source[contf] [contfnew]
