Mauricio Pochettino told his Tottenham players he was still confident of their top-four prospects after Sundays dramatic defeat to title challengers Liverpool.

Spurs suffered their fourth defeat from five league games at Anfield after Toby Alderweirelds injury-time own goal.

Lucas Moura had equalised for the visitors after Roberto Firminos first-half opener but Liverpool snatched victory late on to return to the top of the Premier League.

The loss ensures Tottenham stay joint-third alongside Manchester United, with fifth-placed Arsenal and six-placed Chelsea just one point behind.

But Pochettino took the positives from the loss to Liverpool and revealed what he told his players following the match.

We are all disappointed but at the same time we have to be happy with our second half performance, the Spurs boss, who was serving a touchline ban at Anfield, said.

We were a little bit unlucky to concede the second goal when we should have been ahead because we dominated Liverpool, who are a very good team.

No one wants to lose but its a different defeat than the ones we suffered against Southampton or Burnley. We cannot say its positive but now we start from zero and we can achieve what we want.

I was telling the players in the changing room we have seven games and we are in top four and we need to compete.

Its a mini league and, playing the way we played today, I think we can achieve the top four.

Liverpool were far from at their best on Sunday but Jurgen Klopp was delighted to see his team earn the three points.

The first half was good in difficult circumstances for both teams for different reasons, both teams have been much fresher and have been sprinting quicker [this season], he said.
