Mauricio Pochettino has reaffirmed his desire to see Christian Eriksen extend his contract with Spurs but insisted that it is the players right to decide what is best for his career.

Eriksen, 26, is entering the final 18-months of his deal with the club and is stalling on a contract extension offered to him last month.

Should the Denmark international decide against extending his contract, Spurs would likely entertain offers for him in the summer, rather than risk losing him for nothing in 2020.

A host of Europes top clubs including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus have been linked with the former Ajax man but Pochettino insisted that he is happy and committed to Spurs.

Speaking ahead of Spurs FA Cup tie against Tranmere, Pochettino said: It depends on many things in this business – different parties that have interests.

Of course, Christian Eriksen is such an important player for Tottenham and of course as a person or as a professional coach or manager, you would like to have this type of player with you.

But in the end its a negotiation and theres different parties that have different interests.

It will be fantastic if Christian Eriksen is going to be committed with the club for a long-term, and if not its his right to do what he wants to do.

He added: He is happy here, he is showing his commitment. Then what is going to happen in between him and the club is not only in our hands.

Eriksen signed his last contract extension with Spurs in 2016 and is reported to be earning around £75,000 per week – significantly less than the clubs top earners Harry Kane and Dele Alli.

An abdominal injury restricted his start to the season, but he has been in great form recently, scoring four goals and registering one assist in his previous six matches.
