Kyle Walker took the opportunity to pile yet more misery on Manchester United with a poem mocking Manchester Citys rivals after their win at the Etihad.
David Silva broke the deadlock in only the 12th minute of the clash, beating David De Gea from close-range, before Sergio Aguero doubled Citys advantage just after half-time with a thunderous strike.
United were handed a lifeline as Anthony Martial converted a penalty in the 58th minute but Ilkay Gundogans late goal secured three points for Pep Guardiolas men at the death.
Shortly after the match, Walker uploaded a tweet emphasising Citys 12-point lead over United – before quickly deleting the message.
It read: Our opponent was red, we heard the away fans boo, were twelve points ahead, and just like violets, Manchester is blue.
Guardiola was satisfied with the performance of his team after their comprehensive Manchester derby victory.
We deserved the victory, he said after the win.
The first half we played a little bit with fear but football is a game and we didnt want to lose the ball. We didnt want to attack and they defended well.
In the second half the game is a bit open so we have to find more space but we made a good performance against a top, top team.
We wanted to play good in front of our fans and we know how important it is to play in this game.
But we did well and that goal from Sergio Aguero helped us a lot after half-time.
