Dockers young gun earns AFL Rising Star nomination

Fremantle Dockers youngster Adam Cerra has been nominated as the NAB AFL Rising Star for Round 16.

Cerra earned the nomination for the Dockers after their loss against the Demons in the Northern Territory on Sunday.

During the match, Cerra racked up 23 disposals, seven marks, six intercept possessions, five rebound 50s and three clearances.

At just 18-years-old and with only 14 career games under his belt, Cerra first made his debut in round two against Essendon this year and has cemented his spot in their senior side since.

He has averaged 14.6 possessions for the 2018 season, along with a 75 per cent disposal efficiency.

According to development coach Marc Webb, Cerra had worked strongly through the midfield and up forward.

“Adam has been working strongly as an inside mid and at times working forward,” he said.

“[He] has been strong in training, showing his ability to work well in confined spaces and get outside the contest with his hands and kicking.”

Cerra recently transitioned into working at half-back, and was one of nine Dockers at the weekend who had played 25 or fewer games.

"I'm pretty pleased with how my first year's gone," he said.

"I'm only 18, so I've still got plenty to learn and I didn't expect to play this many games straight away, but the fact I have is pleasing.

"I've had a bit of inconsistency at times, but … I'm playing with new teammates and being a young team, I think we all experience that a little bit."

Cerra is the second Fremantle Docker to make the nominee list this year, with 19-year-old Brennan Cox earning a nomination in round 12.

Other nominees include Cameron Rayner (Brisbane Lions), Ed Richards (Western Bulldogs), Ben Ronke (Sydney Swans), Sam Murray (Sydney Swans), Jake Waterman (West Coast Eagles), Alex Witherden (Brisbane Lions), Paddy Dow (Carlton), Hunter Clark (St Kilda), Riley Bonner (Port Adelaide), Oliver Florent (Sydney Swans), Tom Doedee (Adelaide Crows), Ben Long (St Kilda), Jack Henry (Geelong) and Jaidyn Stephenson (Collingwood).
