Coutinho, 25, was keen on moving to the La Liga giants in the summer and handed in a transfer request in a desperate bid to force through a move.
Liverpool stood strong and rejected three bids from Barcelona, the third of which was believed to be in the region of £118million.
The Catalan giants remain interested in the Brazil international and could make another bid for him in the January transfer window.

Suarez made the move from Anfield to the Camp Nou in 2014 and the Uruguay international insists Barcelona will always be interested in players like Coutinho.
‘Both Griezmann and Coutinho are elite players that are playing at the top level,’ said Suarez.
‘They are where they are for a reason. They’re both young and have long careers ahead of them. And Barca always want the best players.
‘If you look at [Griezmann], at Atletico he needs to play with a No 9. He’s not a fixed No 9.
‘Obviously, Griezmann would come here to add to the team and to help the side in the position that the coach wants him to play.’
